Cinderella 2015 Review

I recently had the opportunity of seeing the new Disney film Cinderella (2015) directed by Kenneth Branagh. So here is my Cinderella 2015 review. We will be looking at some key details about the movie and my thoughts on the plot, characters, etc. This may also help you decide whether to see the movie or not, so here we go!

Basic Movie Outline of Cinderella 2015

  • So the film Cinderella is a brilliant new Disney spin on the classic Cinderella story.  It stars Lily James who  plays the role of Ella, (nicknamed Cinderella by her step-sisters).
  • The film starts off with a jolly depiction of her life with her mother and father living happily together in their big house. But then tragedy creeps up on this lovable family and Ella can only watch as the two people she loves most in the world- her father and mother- pass away.
  • Prior to his death, Ella's father remarries and so Cinderella's life's transforms yet again when it becomes completely controlled by her wicked and extremely sarcastic step-mother played Cate Blanchett.
  •   Ella is forced to give up her room to her step-sisters and live as though she is the help and not part of the family.  Ella meets the Prince (played by Richard Madden) but both of them hide their true identity so as not to be judged by the other.  They instantly connect and from that moment the prince falls in love with young Cinderella.
  •  Then comes along Cinderella's  fairy godmother played by Helena Bonham Carter, who gives her a magical makeover and presents her with the chance to go to the prince's  ball and  enjoy a most wonderful evening.
  • Cinderella leaves the ball early but of course, the prince who had hoped to spend more time with her, finds her glass shoe and organizes a search for her so that she may become his bride.
  •  Much to the viewers delight, Cinderella is finally found after a close miss, and she is liberated. She is now able to break free from her pitiable situation and live with the prince happily ever after.

More on characters:

So that was my brief synopsis on the film Cinderella 2015, there are many more twists and surprises in the film to look out for.

I found Cinderella 2015 to be a really heart wrenching movie portraying meek and innocent Ella who is kind to everyone no matter their appearance or demeanor. You just can't help feeling sorry for her.

Young Ella takes on her mother's last advice to her which is: 'Have courage and be kind. You have more kindness in your finger, than most people possess in their whole body.'

She lives by this principle in all her ways and  this is something that really endears viewers to her.  Her pleasant disposition ultimately sees her through all the trials she encounters and makes her stand out as different to her dear Prince Charming.

Cinderella, although emotionally motivational, also encompasses a great deal of humor, particularly through the characters of Lady Tremaine (Cinderella's Stepmother) and her two stepsisters Anastasia and Driezella. These two stepsisters are very comical and irrational, setting a huge contrast between their personalities and that of Ella. Cate Blanchett's depiction of Cinderella's stepmother is excellent and adds to the mood and  viewer reaction to  Cinderella's predicament.

Highlights of the film were the spectacular dress that Cinderella wore to the ball and all the elegant details of the ball.  The tunes in the movie are beautiful and serene and will definitely playing again in your head when you leave the movie theatre.  I am very pleased with the storyline and the balance between the original Cinderella story and the twists incorporated in this movie.

So Overall I would definitely recommend this movie.

This film is a brilliant one for the whole family;  young and old will certainly enjoy this spin on the classic tale.  It's a movie that leaves you feeling good  and satisfied. Moreover it  sends a moral message that kindness will bring you far in life, and that with a good attitude (like that of Ella), you can overcome anything that comes your way.
