Resilience Definition. What does the word 'resilience' mean to you? Let's talk about the definition of resilience from multiple angles.

What Resilience means:

Resilience is the ability to recover and bounce back into shape. When you learn how to be resilient, you learn how to respond successfully to the changes in your own life and the society around you.

Consider an example of resilience. Have you ever noticed the way a flower seems bowed down after a weathering a storm? In a way, it is a touching sight. After all, the cloudburst likely sent countless animals and people- far tougher creatures than any flower- scurrying for shelter. Yet the flower stood there, rooted, facing the weather's full fury.

Now, here it is, intact, bowed but unbroken, showing a strength that belies it's delicate appearance. You may wonder, as you admire it, if it will regain it's vigor, and lift it's lovely head to the sky once more.

It's much the same with people. In these troubled times, we face all manner of storms. Economic hardships, depression, failing health, the loss of a loved one in death - such tempests attack all of us at one time or another, and sometimes we can no more avoid them than the flower can uproot itself and run for cover.

But although, you can't always run away from harsh environments, you can learn to survive them.

How to be resilient

To succeed in the midst of negative surroundings, you have to be able to adapt. You've got to be able to change the way you see things, and have a positive outlook.

When people who are resilient make mistakes, they don't hurt themselves with self-defeating language. If you want to live a resilient life, you must recognise that mistakes and failures are a natural occurrence. Your choice is the manner in which you respond to these trying circumstances.

It is resilience that leads us to thrive at work and cope with changes, by finding solutions to problems that arise. Sometime, we have to see the bigger picture accept that things change, life goes on, and things will get better. Sometimes we have to look for ways that we can personally improve the situation we are in, or hang in there till its over.

Whatever you're situation, be assured that you can make it through. You need to work to build resilience, by never giving up and having faith in your ability.
