Lessons We Learn
In The Face of Adversity

In the face of adversity, what lessons do we learn? As you overcome adversities of life there are certain things you discover, about yourself and others.

Lessons We Learn In the Face of AdversityWhat Good Could Ever Come Out of Adversity?

Today we are going to be discussing the ways we grow during times of duress, and important things we come to realize through, or after the adversities of life.

1.  We're Stronger Than We Think

One very important thing one discovers in the face of adversity, is that we are often stronger than we think.

  • Challenges that you thought would kill you - come and when they leave, you discover that you're still alive.

You made it.

You may have changed. You may haven broken some bones along the way - but you have come back stronger.

  • And I guess that is the good/(not so bad) thing about going through difficult stages. You learn a whole lot more about yourself and your capabilities.

And that strengthens you for the next round.

2. Friends Become Family

During times of duress, the ugly truth comes out and you find out who is really there for you and who isn't.

  • And at times, family is formed out of your friends, a close unit of humans who know how to love unconditionally.

They say that the truest friendships aren't about those whom you've known for the longest, or who came first;

but rather about those who came and never, ever left.

It's a sad reality that at times family members who you expect to be at your side - will be missing.

Blood doesn't always make you family.

  • But then will emerge the kindest of souls, people who are willing to go to great lengths to help you in your difficult times.

And they will come from the most unusual/unexpected of places.

3. A 'Small' Kindness Goes a Long Way

When bad things happen again and again in a short period of time, it can leave you a little vulnerable and powerless.

You feel like you need to curl up in a ball and hide somewhere.

Especially if you have been the victim of some kind of physical or verbal abuse.

Under situations like that, the littlest things mean a lot.

  • The smallest gestures of kindness can be what you need to carry on that day.
  • A warm touch, a kind word can be the motivating source to keep you going.

You find a measure of strength in the little things that pop up occasionally, in a way you never thought you would.

4. Time Heals

Some hurts and pains seem like they will go on FOREVER.

Day after day, nothing appears to change. Until,

One day, you realize that a problem you were once dealing with is no longer there.

You discover lights - at the end of a very long tunnel.

The memory of something that used to bother you like crazy doesn't even make you flinch anymore.

  • And that's because you have grown and adapted. No, not necessarily by choice, but because that's the way certain things work.
  • Time heals a lot of scars.

It won't make all the issues vanish, but for some aches and pains - you've just got to give it some time.

You learn to keep going. Because the tears can't fall forever.

5. Bad Things Happen To Good People, too

  • Sadly, in the face of adversity we also learn that no-one is completely invincible.
  • Bad things happen to Good people too.

Adversity will come at one point or another and there's nothing you can really do to avoid it.

No matter how hard you try, you may just end up in the wrong place, at the wrong time.

Other times, trouble will come hurling directly your way, even when you thought you were safe.

Adversity can comely suddenly, and to people you never thought would have to suffer.

6. You Don't Really Lose Until You Lose Hope

  • In the face of adversity, you learn that you can make it through if you keep the hope alive.

Bad things may happen, but it never hits you quite the same if you try to maintain a positive attitude about the situation.

When you lose hope however, you lose so much.

This is because often, during times of adversity - the only thing you really have control over is your viewpoint.

  • If you have ever been through difficult circumstances but have kept your hope strong, you will realize how much of a different it makes.

No matter how many times you break down, the piece of you that says: 'I'm not done yet,' and 'I'm getting back up'- is the force that will help you endure whatever hardships come your way.

That Might Have Made Me better.

As horrible as you may feel in the face of adversity, after it has happened- a shocking realization may hit you in the face.

That it only made you stronger.

That it may even had made you wiser and more resilient.

  • Hey, it may have even made you better as a whole.
  • Unexpected, but a reality nonetheless.

Depending on how things went, you made even discover that though you had to go through tough times, you have no regrets about it, because it gave you an opportunity to grow in a way that no other thing could have helped you to do so.

It's crazy how things turn out sometimes, ey?
